520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc The documentation of fruit flies species infesting fruits, vegetables and wild fruitts has been sstudied during 2009-2010. It was observed that two species of fruit fly(Bactrocera tau and B.cucurbitae) emerged from fibe samples of collected fruits. However three species of fruit fly(B.dorsalis, B.tau and B.bactrocera sp.) emerged from six samples of wild host. The studies on the response of fruit flies species attracted to cue lure and methyl eugenol was studied under the six different location of Umiam area.. cue lure attracted seven species of fruit fly and methyl eugenol attracted two species of fruit fly. The population of the fruit flies species showed non significant positive correlation with all the weather parameters. In Botanical garden area(BSI) where tree sp viz. Syzygium cuminii, Pongomia pinniata, Oroxylum indicum, Cinamomum partherozycom,Magnolia hodgsonii, Lagestroemia indica, Cephalotaxus griffithii and Taxus wallichiana are grown have abundance of fruit fly species(i.e. nine species), with a total catches of 10.14 among the six location. The studies on the biology of B.tau was carried out under laboratory condition. the fecundity of female B.tau was 58.2 29.3 eggs/female. the incubation period, larval period, pupal satge were recorded to be 2.5 0.84 days, 6.3 1.05 days and 14.1 1.44 days, respectively. the male and female longetivity recorded were 20.7 3.4 days and 16 1.94 days, respectively. The total life cycle(egg to adult) of B.tau ranged from 32 40 days with a mean of 34.9 3.63 days. The total development period (incubation period to latval period) of B.tau were recorded to be 22.16 1.79. comparison of the effectiveness of different lures of methyl eugenol showed that small block of methyl eugenol was more effective.
