| Summary, etc | A field experiment conducted to identify the suitable winter pulses with appropriate crop establishment technique in rice follow for enhancing land productivity under residual soil fertility. The experiment done in split plot design with three crop establishment technique in main plot (utera, flat bed line sowing and raised bed sowing) with combination of nutrient management in rice (organic and integrated nutrient management), and four winter pulses (Lathyrus, chick pea, lentil and field pea) in sub plot. The soil of experiment sites were sandy clay loam (USDA) with pH slightly acidic 5.3 and organic carbon high 2.14%. It was medium in available N 298.67 kg/ha, available P (18.64 kg/ha) and available K (185.72 kg/ha). Results revealed that significantly higher yield attributes such as effective tiller, spikelet /panicle, filled grain /panicle, grain weight /panicle, panicle length, grain yield, straw yield and biological yield was recorded under INM in both the years in rice. However, residual effect of nutrient recorded maximum inorganic nutrient management of pulses on growth attributes viz. height of plant, branches, dry matter accumulation (g /plant), root nodules /plant, dry weight of nodule (mg/plant), root-shoot ratio, CGR and RGR and yield attributes and yield like number of pod /plant, filled pod /plant, sterility (%), grain /pod, grain /plant, test weight, grain weight /plant, grain yield, straw yield and biological yield, NPK content and uptakes in both years of experiment. Similar parameter was also recorded higher under raised bed crop establishment technique. Among the cropping system rice-Lathyrus cropping system was observed maximum in grain yield, straw yield and biological yield in both years. In rice-Lathyrus cropping sequence with organic nutrient management and raised bed system recorded maximum protein yields, system rice equivalent yield, system productivity and biological properties of soil. However, maximum net return and benefit cost ratio was recorded under rice- Lathyrus with utera cropping system under INM. Hence, Lathyrus could be included in rice fallows ideally with utera cropping system for higher productivity and economics in Meghalaya. |
