Liming is widely used to increase the soil pH but it has some disadvantages. But in the past few years, biochar as an organic amendments to acid soils used to enhance the soil fertility in similar fashion to lime application. However, the NER region produces a huge quantity of pinewood/crop residue/weed biomass which can be converted into biochar and utilized for managing soil acidity. Keeping this in view, an investigation was planned to study the interactive effect of lime, biochar and FYM on soil acidity indices under rice in acid Inceptisol. Two experiments i.e., incubation study and pot culture study were conducted with three levels of biochar (0, 3.5 & 7.5 t ha-1), lime (0, 0.5 & 1 t ha-1) and FYM (0, 1.25 & 2.5 t ha-1) and tested in 27 treatments laid with 3 replications in factorial complete randomized design. The native experimental soil contains available N, P, and K as 291.62, 17.23 and 128.10 kg ha-1 respectively. It exhibits acidic reactions with pH 5.4, OC 1.6 percent and bulk density 1.26 g cc-1. The analysis of biochar indicated alkaline nature with pH 8.9, EC 3.58 dS m-1 and NPK content of 0.89, 0.76 and 0.81 percent respectively, whereas farmyard manure contains 0.46 N, 0.29 P and 0.42 K percent with pH of 6.53. The result revealed that the combined application of biochar, lime and FYM significantly enhanced the soil pH, cation exchange capacity, base saturation, exchangeable calcium and magnesium of post-harvest soil, while it reduced the exchangeable aluminium, exchangeable hydrogen, exchangeable acidity and acid saturation percentage in both the experiments. It was found that biochar with 7.5 t ha-1 + lime with 1 t ha-1 + FYM with 2.5 t ha-1 shows best result in reducing the acidity of soil. Application of biochar, lime and FYM significantly enhanced the plant height, panicle length, number of panicles per hill, number of grains per panicle, grain and straw yield. Rice responded exceedingly well to the combined application of 7.5 t ha-1 biochar + 1 t ha-1 lime + 2.5 t ha-1 FYM (T27) in terms of growth, yield attributes and nutrient uptake. The grain and straw yield was augmented by 81.06 percent and 72.34 percent over control. Further, the combined application of biochar, lime and FYM also enhances the soil fertility status with available nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium ranges from 292.99 to 340.58, 17.22 to 21.85 and 128.10 to 137.69 kg ha-1.
